Costa Rican Association of Transportation Engineering

Attached to the College of Civil Engineers of Costa Rica, it was established on January 20, 1989 under the name of the Transportation Engineering Association (AIT), and registered in the Registry of Associations of the Ministry of Justice on August 8 of the same year. AIT actively collaborated in the organization and implementation of activities related to the dissemination of knowledge in the field of transportation, as established by its statutes; from the beginning with civilians in the organization of the National Congress of Civil Engineering, starting with the third of them held in 1990. Over time, its initial fields of action were also expanded, and it has organized several Transportation Engineering Congresses , which is carried out periodically.

In October 2007, it had to change its name to adopt the current name, Costa Rican Association of Transportation Engineering ACITRA. This occurred after a period of less than two years, since June 2006, when the previous AIT had ceased to legally exist and had to be established and registered as the Costa Rican Association of Transportation and Urban Planning Engineering – ACITU. However, because there was an Urban Planning Commission within the CIC of the CFIA at that time, this reason was modified by ACITRA.
